A BUSINESS that was set up in response to increased awareness into sun damage and skin cancer, has moved into new premises in Bellshill.

Karen Wood launched Tannovation, a Sunless Tanning product manufacturing business and brand after her friend passed away from skin cancer.

Previously based in West Calder near Livingston, Karen moved her full manufacturing and distribution into a new 500 square foot unit in Grovewood Business Centre in 2019. The Lanarkshire facility is managed by UKSE, a Tata Steel subsidiary.

Karen’s innovative tanning products Tannovation, 30 Minute Tan and Dance Tan, which are all formulated and created in-house, promise to give customers a natural sun-kissed glow in just 30 minutes, without the dangers of sun damage.

Her bespoke products, which come in Professional Salon Spray, Self Tanning Mousse and Micro Self tan liquid, are made fresh in their on-site laboratory, using high-end ingredients such as champagne and black truffle extract, creating Karen’s signature tropical coconut fragrance.

Karen has a substantial customer following who place their orders across the UK to get there all year-round tan.

Tannovation founder, Karen Wood, said: “I’m so excited to have moved into our new site at Strathclyde Business Park.  We offer the local and UK beauty market-fresh, consistent and innovative products made right here in Scotland.

As our business and range of products grew, we required a larger space to accommodate us, and the unit in the business park is the perfect fit for our research facility, product manufacturing, distribution and spray tanning room.

“I set up this business with my father, who sadly passed away shortly before our first product launched, but I know he’d be very proud of where the business is now. We’ve worked so incredibly hard over the years, building up a loyal customer base and we’re looking forward to reaching more whilst in our new space.”

Jackie Taylor, property administrator at UKSE said: “This is exactly what UKSE is all about; seeing local businesses grow and reach their full potential. We’re looking forward to seeing Karen come into her own, reaching new customers and expanding her offering.”

Located at Strathclyde Business Park, Grovewood Business Centre offers 46,500 sq. ft. of managed office space and industrial units. Since UKSE started in 1975, 685 companies have shared the space and built up businesses, creating employment opportunities and economic growth in Lanarkshire.
