THE COWALFEST walking festival is on track to be a great success according to organisers, with a solid flow of bookings for each of the 60 separate guided walks and special interest events.

The five-day festival, taking place from October 12th to 16th, makes a comeback after a three year break due to Covid and features a host of hikes around the spectacular Cowal peninsula.

“We are seeing a good number of local people booking places on the walks as well as visitors from further afield,” explained Cowalfest committee chair Agnes Harvey “and it’s shaping up to be another popular event in the Cowal calendar with the number of bookings comparing favourably to past festivals.

“We have also had some fantastic support from local businesses donating competition and raffle prizes including Carry Farm, Portavadie Spa, The Blairmore, The Whistlefield Inn, Highland Stores, Bookpoint, Doon the Watter, Heal n Glen, Argyll Coffee Roasters, Once Upon a Christmas and Live Argyll. We’d like to place on record our thanks for their donations.

“All funds raised go towards helping us to keep the event going. As a team of volunteers, we are reliant on the bookings and the support from companies to deliver a programme of activities that contributes towards putting Cowal on the map.

“Each of the guided walks will be led by experts with a keen knowledge of local history transforming a pleasant hike into an informative and educational experience.

“We also have a number of family focused events in the schedule this year and we are keen to welcome younger generations into the Cowalfest fold. Walking is for everyone regardless of age.

“We are still on the look out for volunteers to help out on the committee and during the five days and anyone getting involved will be made very welcome,” added Agnes.
