Uplifting recognition for Malcolm Group’s CEO at UWS graduation

IN A heartwarming ceremony at Paisley Abbey, Andrew Malcolm MBE, the driving force behind the Linwood-based heavyweight logistics company Malcolm Group, received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). The recognition, bestowed as part of the University’s winter graduations, celebrated Andrew’s remarkable contributions to business and his unwavering commitment to community and charitable causes.

As the CEO of the 100-year-old Scottish family firm, Andrew Malcolm has played a pivotal role in transforming Malcolm Group into a major player in the nationwide logistics sector. Under his leadership, the company’s workforce has nearly doubled to over 2,000 people, with a unique focus on employing multiple generations of families.

In 2023, Andrew’s outstanding knowledge and leadership were acknowledged with an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List, a testament to his exceptional contributions to the business landscape. Beyond his business achievements, Andrew is known for his philanthropic endeavours, supporting charities such as the Beatson Cancer Centre, where he serves as an ambassador. Additionally, he sits on the board of the Wise Group, a social enterprise dedicated to uplifting people out of poverty.

Johnny Mone, Head of Business Innovation at UWS, highlighted Andrew’s inspirational career and his unwavering commitment to both people and the local community during the ceremony. Expressing his gratitude for the Honorary Doctorate, Andrew shared, “I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this recognition from my local University, which offers employer-focused degrees. I am delighted to say many of its alumni thrive in our business today.”

Professor James Miller FRSE, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UWS, praised Andrew’s achievements and emphasised the alignment of his ethos with the mission and values of UWS. Miller expressed, “Congratulations to Andrew for this deserved recognition,” acknowledging the impact of Andrew’s passion for nurturing families and communities connected to the Malcolm Group.
