Scottish island tranquillity inspires seven-figure revamp of the award-winning Spa at Blythswood Square

Snow Shower - Spa At Blythswood Square

A REFURBISHED seven-figure luxury spa inspired by the natural beauty of the Scottish Hebrides is set to be unveiled at a landmark hotel in Glasgow, with a whole host of new features.

The state-of-the-art spa experience at the five-star Kimpton Blythswood Square has undergone a complete reimagination as the hotel ushers in what it’s calling ‘a new era of wellness’. Bookings are open now ahead of its opening to the public on July 10.

The significant investment makes it IHG Hotels & Resorts most expensive spa refurbishment in the UK.

Described as ‘a haven for holistic wellness’, Spa at Blythswood Square will offer a wide range of treatments using the highest quality organic Scottish products from ishga and boast industry-leading facilities including a new Himalayan salt room and unique snowfall feature – the first in Scotland and only the second in the UK.

Its relaxation pools, crystal steam room, and hydrotherapy pool have also been upgraded as part of the ambitious project, as have the spa’s nine treatment rooms.

The spa experience has been curated to offer four unique wellness journeys that fully map each guest’s recommended experience through the spa in order to achieve their desired outcome.

Mafalda Albuquerque, General Manager at Kimpton Blythswood Square, is excited to usher in an ‘elevated era of wellness’ in response to the surging appetite for self-care.

She said: “We have created a grounded, welcoming space which will be one of the best spas in the UK.  Spa at Blythswood Square is a destination to be enjoyed just as you need it – it’s the ultimate sanctuary in the city.

“We’re proud to be offering an experience that’s unique to Glasgow and it’s wonderful to see our vision come to life.”

Finlay Anderson, Spa Director at Kimpton Blythswood Square and Area Spa Director for IHG Hotels & Resorts, was named Spa Professional of the Year at last year’s Hotel Catey Awards.

He manages seven leisure clubs and spas within IHG’s estate, including Kimpton Blythswood Square’s sister venue in Edinburgh, Kimpton Charlotte Square.

He added: “While our spa was incredible and loved by guests, we always strive to learn and improve. In devising the plan for our reimagined spa, we’ve learned from spas around the world, our own research, and emerging trends and technologies, as well as techniques which have been helping people improve their lives for generations.

The concept – taking influence from the beauty and wellbeing benefits of nature – places Spa at Blythswood Square at the core of wellness in Scotland. Guests will be reminded of the rugged landscapes, clear waters and natural beauty, while years of expertise rooted in physiological science have allowed us to develop meaningful, multi-sensory experiences for our guests.

“Our mission is to help each guest improve and reconnect with their body and mind. Spa at Blythswood Square provides a multi-sensory wellness experience to do just that.”

After luxuriating in one of the thoughtfully curated treatments, or enjoying the new relaxation room which takes place of the previous spa café, guests will be invited to complete their journey with a nutrient-rich menu at Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel’s spirited seafood restaurant, iasg.

Spa at Blythswood Square is located within the 113-room Georgian townhouse hotel which overlooks private gardens. Kimpton Blythswood Square is part of Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, a leading luxury lifestyle and wellness brand, from IHG Hotels & Resorts.
