LEADING leisure and retail destination, Silverburn in Glasgow, is inviting job seekers to attend its annual Job Fair on Friday, 6 October, to find out about the variety of roles up for grabs in the centre.

The annual event has helped hundreds of people secure jobs over the years.

Held in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, the fair will host over 25 Silverburn brands, including high-profile retailers, Marks & Spencer, Next, JD Sports, and Boots, along with Silverburn’s own centre management team.

The range of vacancies available include both part-time and full-time roles, along with permanent and temporary Christmas contracts. Many of the roles are flexible and would suit students, working parents or those looking to return to work. Attendees can browse the options, ask questions, submit CVs or, in some cases, be interviewed on the spot.

Helen Neil, 32, attended the event in 2021, with the hopes of securing a retail job after taking a career break. Helen was offered a customer advisor role at The Perfume Shop and has quickly risen through the ranks to become a team leader in the store.

Helen said: “Everyone was so welcoming – I was a little anxious about coming back to work after taking some time out, but everyone was so friendly and approachable.

“I was surprised by the amount of choice available at the centre. There was everything from restaurant and retail roles, and even working as part of Silverburn’s internal team. There are so many different options.

“My advice to anyone looking to get back into work would be to just come along and see what takes your interest. You never know what you might find.”

Nazia Adnan, 40, secured a temporary Christmas contract working as a customer advisor at Boots in 2017. After showing strong potential in the role Nazia was offered a permanent contract.  She now works as a beauty specialist in the store, following a promotion in 2020.

Nazia said: “It’s a great opportunity to come along and ask questions about the roles on offer. The centre has a fantastic atmosphere – it’s always busy and bustling with people.”

On the opportunities for career development, Nazia said: “You never know where a role is going to take you. I was only supposed to be here for a few months, but it’s been six years!

“I’ve been recognised at the national Boots Premium Beauty Conference for my work in the store. It was such an honour and definitely not something I ever thought would happen when I came to Silverburn all those years ago!”

Opportunities available at the fair are not limited to retail and leisure, with Silverburn also promoting positions within its internal management and facilities team.

Recent recruit, Donna McGinley, joined the cleaning team at Silverburn last year after attending the fair.

Donna said: “I’d taken a few years off work to raise my family and was a little unsure of how I was going to get back into work. It’s not always easy to find a role that supports the schedule of a working mother, but I’ve found everyone on the Silverburn team so supportive.

“It’s been great for making new friends – there is a real sense of comradery on the Silverburn team!”

The event will be held in the central atrium from 11am – 4pm on Friday 6 October.  Find out more about the event here: https://www.shopsilverburn.com/news/job-fair/
