Asda is trying to cut the pay of 7,000 retail workers, says GMB Union

GMB, the union for Asda workers, responded to the supermarket’s appearance before a Parliamentary committee yesterday.

Nadine Houghton, GMB National Officer, said: “Today the Business Committee asked ASDA for answers on a potential gap of £1.7 billion in their reported operating costs.

“While ASDA are trying to cut the pay of 7,000 low paid retail workers, GMB members too will want to know what this £1.7 billion has been spent on.

“ASDA agreed to get back to the Committee with answers and we look forward to seeing them.”
