EDINBURGH-based family business Broughton Removals has expanded and rebranded in its 50th year, thanks to a funding package from Royal Bank of Scotland.

The removals and storage company, founded by Sonny Munro in 1970, has recruited three new staff members to bolster its team.

It’s also used the funds to increase the capacity of their storage facility in Leith by more than half, from 500 to 800 containers, and has rebranded in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Sonny’s daughter Jo recently took over as director of the business, which is one of the longest running removal services in Scotland.

The funding will also allow the company to support one of its youngest staff members, 22-year-old Mitchell Thorburn, through his HGV licence training.

Jo said: “It’s fantastic to be able to bring more people into our team at such an exciting time – our 50th birthday year.

“We’ve always invested in staff training and development, and now we can ramp this up a notch and expand further.”

Denis Curran, Royal Bank of Scotland relationship manager, said: “We’ve been with Broughton Removals since the beginning, and it’s been great to help them grow from strength to strength over the years. Jo has come into the business with fantastic ideas, and I’m looking forward to seeing where she takes it next.”
