Dundee-based accountancy firm Ashton McGill, which is founded by father and son Alasdair and Andrew McGill, is pleased to announce business growth which resulted in a 41% increase in annual turnover for 2023. The business attributes this success to an increased portfolio of clients across Scotland, which has propelled it towards achieving a projected revenue of £1 million in 2024.
Andrew McGill, Commercial Director, said: “Business owners want more from their accountants and as we offer a more collaborative approach to our services, I believe that this has been the key to our success over the past year.
“Clients may be used to reviewing year end finances with their accountant after the event, but we proactively have regular communication with our clients and hold reviews on at least a quarterly basis to ensure that they are fully informed on their company’s financial health and can plan for the future.”
Two appointments have been made to the team as a result of the business growth; Ryan Gillies, has joined the team as an Account Manager, sharing the company’s belief that accountants should act as advisors to clients, to help them identify unique opportunities for growth and improvement.
Additionally, Ashton McGill will be welcoming a new Aberdeen-based Accountant to the team in May, bringing the company’s headcount to 14, and the expectation is that the business will have up to three more positions to fill later in the year.
After four years of dedicated service within the company, Operations Director, Jared Cordner, has now acquired a stake as a shareholder. Jared joined Ashton McGill as a Service Delivery Manager in 2020 but recently his responsibilities have grown to include management of the operational side of the business.
Andrew added: “We believe that true success for ourselves, and for our clients, is not merely about expanding in size or scale; it’s about fostering the growth of those within the business. Ashton McGill aims to be a catalyst for growth, understanding what drives people and placing a strong emphasis on training and development.”
Another achievement for the growing accountancy business in 2023, was being selected as a finalist in the Xero awards for the ‘Mid-Size Firm of the Year’ category. This is a significant milestone which demonstrates Ashton McGill’s rapid growth after winning the ‘Small Firm of the Year’ award just two years prior.
