Transparent service to small firms and sole operators an instant success

FREELANCERS, side hustlers and small businesses trying to get on top of their financial affairs are turning to a leading accountancy and tax specialist to put them on the straight and narrow.

Douglas Home & Co introduced a collection of Small Business Packages six months ago to offer easily accessible and affordable accountancy services which would appeal to business start-ups and self-employed individuals.

In the first half of 2022, more than 50 businesses have sought advice on the pre-priced packages with half of those signing up and more to follow – confirming a market demand for small business support.

Small Business Client Manager at Douglas Home & Co, Melissa Foggon, said: “We have extensive experience of working with small businesses to understand their needs and we have identified a need for this suite of bespoke packages which are perfect for their requirements.

“By helping small businesses and sole traders from the very beginning of their journey, we can ensure their tax liability is reduced, they aren’t making any costly mistakes and that all their accountancy needs are met from the start.”

The suite of support packages range in price and start from just £350 (plus VAT) per year and are tailored for sole traders, self-employed, vat registered unincorporated businesses and limited companies. Individual tax returns, full annual accounts, company tax returns and account manager support, can be paired with bolt-on services which include cloud software access, fully managed monthly accounts and payroll services.

Melissa added: “Our Small Business Packages are perfect for self-employed individuals, side hustlers, businesses who feel their accounts are in a muddle and want to take control, and small businesses which are beginning to grow.

“Hard pressed entrepreneurs can spend more time actually running and developing their business and be safe in the knowledge that their accounts are ship-shape and that any tax liability is mitigated and that they are compliant with HMRC requirements.”

Douglas Home & Co was founded and remains headquartered in the Scottish Borders where it has four offices, with other operations in Edinburgh, East Lothian, Cumbria and Northumberland. It has 70 staff, has served more than 1,000 rural businesses and last year reported a 4% rise in turnover to £4 million.

That keeps it on track with its ambitious business plan to occupy a market gap it has identified between smaller accountancy firms and the big four. Its ethos is to provide a more personalised service than big firms, but a more expansive range of services than smaller practices, like its Small Business Packages.

Offering a fresh, modern approach, leading experts at Douglas Home & Co are urging sole traders, VAT registered unincorporated businesses and limited companies looking to grow to look into its Small Business Packages.
