One of America’s top innovation experts will arm businesses with the skills to increase innovation while decreasing risk when he addresses a major event in Dundee in March.

Inventor, researcher and educator Doug Hall is the keynote speaker at The Enterprise Conversation, hosted by Women’s Business Station.

The event, sponsored by Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education and Dundee and Angus College, will be held at Apex City Quay Hotel and Spa on Monday 9 March 2020.

Doug Hall, named one of America’s top innovation experts by Inc. magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Dateline NBC, CNBC, CIO magazine, and the CBC, will introduce delegates to ‘Innovation Engineering.

Innovation Engineering is a scientifically proven framework which transforms the mindset of people and organisations, enabling them to work smarter, faster and with increased creativity to accelerate the development of more profitable products, services and internal work systems.

Doug’s interactive talk will energise and educate the audience on creating, communicating and commercialising new ideas, helping turn innovation from a random gamble into a reliable business system for repeatable success.

Doug said, “My goal is to reframe innovation from a pipedream into a practical, proven, business-building tool to spark growth, profitability, innovation and change.  For over 40 years, I’ve taught, coached and helped leaders move from frustration to fresh hope. This event isn’t for those seeking theory and just ‘another motivational speaker’ – I’ll be explaining academically validated and marketplace proven methods for working smarter, faster and more innovatively, helping individuals turn ideas into action, and businesses create a real culture of innovation amongst their employees.”

Doug will be introduced by Helen Potter of Perth-based Potter Innovation, who holds the European Licence for Innovation Engineering and is currently focussed on running training programmes in Scotland.

Helen commented, “People and organisations often fail to work innovatively, not because of a lack of need or desire, but because they lack a system for innovation and a knowledge of how to go about innovation.  This seminar, which explains system-driven innovation, will inspire you with possibilities ranging from transformational change to incremental improvements in ways of working within your business and the wider Scottish entrepreneurial eco-system.”

Last year, world-renowned TED speaker Dr Ernesto Sirolli, a global practitioner of economic development and community advocate, addressed an audience of around 100 delegates at The Enterprise Conversation.

Women’s Business Station exists to support women on their business journey, empowering them to their goals, whether big or small.   The social enterprise has an ambitious, 10 year plan to be positioned in five towns or cities across Scotland, aiming to enhance the socio-economic empowerment of 10,000 women in Scotland by 2030.

Angie De Vos, CEO, Women’s Business Station added, “We are delighted to welcome Doug Hall to Dundee for what promises to be a truly inspirational event for anyone seeking to be more innovative or creative, regardless of their sector or stage in their business journey.

“We are programmed to think that inventors and entrepreneurs are born with that talent, that it somehow achieves an inherent characteristic in someone and, although some people have a flair for ideas, turning them into a business is a different story altogether. Doug will show us that innovation can be taught, that there’s a proven system behind it and we can all follow it to make a real difference in our business life. What’s more, innovation is also a term associated with risk so Doug will show us how to turn that risk and gamble into a reliable and sustainable way of working and bringing ideas to life. As an inventor, teacher and author, Doug has countless stories to tell, and lessons to inspire us with, allowing delegates to unleash their potential and really make a difference to the success of their product, service or operations.”

The event will run from 9.30am until 4.30pm on Monday 9 March 2020.  Tickets, which include a two-course lunch, tea/coffee and delegate pack, cost £105, £75 for third sector delegates and £60 for Women’s Business Station members.  To book, visit https://www.businessstation.co.uk/event/the-enterprise-conversation/
