ONE OF the UK’s largest privately-owned suppliers to the food industry has chosen Vert Technology to power its new demonstration van that is set to go into operation across Europe.

Based in East Kilbride, Scobie & Junor has purchased two Vert A100 compressors to run the machines within its Mobile Experience Automation Team demonstration unit. The equipment, supplied through the group’s SCOTNET Automation division, includes meat processing and packaging machines.

Up until now, Scobie & Junor had to carry out equipment demonstrations within the factories of its customers, which involved substantial disruption to operations. With its new mobile unit, these presentations will be carried out quickly and efficiently.

Founded in 1918 as a trader in herbs and spices, Scobie & Junor has expanded to become a £30m turnover operation with bases in Scotland, England, Northern and Southern Ireland. It employs 200 people providing ingredients, packaging and equipment to the food industry, with the Automation division generating £6m in annual revenues.

“We will be taking the demonstration van right across the UK, Ireland and the rest of Europe,” managing director Gordon Wicklow said.

“The Vert compressors are very innovative, with very little noise and high levels of compression. They are also small and portable, so for what we are doing, they are ideal.”

Vert’s patented Conical Rotary Compressor (CRC) technology lies at the core of its powerful compressors, which produce high-pressure air, continuously without compromising on noise levels for the operator.

Founded in 2013, Vert employs 14 people at its Manufacturing and Design centre on the southern edge of Edinburgh. Its technology has won multiple awards since the first working prototype was produced in 2014, and led to the company securing a prestigious government grant in 2019 from the UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Vert is currently accelerating commercial sales of its compressor units, powered by its patented CRC technology.
