Scotland’s largest vaccine producer Valneva Scotland hit its fundraising target of £10k on Saturday (29th Nov) after raising over £2k at its inaugural Team Jak Trophy charity football match.

The game took place at the Oriam, where Scotland Over 50s team (Scottish Vets FC), faced players from Valneva Scotland, the Scottish Patient Awareness Council and Bouygues Energies & Services.

The event brought together players, supporters, and the local community for a fantastic morning of football in support of Team Jak, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of children and young people impacted by cancer.

Notable Scottish veteran players taking part included former Blackburn Rovers defender Colin Hendry, the last player to captain Scotland at a World Cup, and Colin Cameron, who played for Raith Rovers, Hearts and Wolves. Former MP for Livingston, Hannah Bardell, also took part in coaching duties on the day.

The event was part of Valneva Scotland’s ongoing support for Team Jak. Throughout the year, it has put on a number of fundraising initiatives, including six members of the Valneva team forming the ‘Glistening Glutes’ to tackle the Tough Mudder Scotland challenge at Hopetoun House in June, a wider Valneva Scotland team taking on the Big Stroll at Glasgow Kiltwalk 2025, and various other site-wide fundraising efforts.

Allison Barr, Chief Executive at Team Jak, said:“We provide a vital lifeline for young people and families facing incredibly challenging times. It’s thanks to amazing fundraising efforts like this from the charity committee at Valneva Scotland, all its staff and supporters, that we’re able to continue our work and reach even more families when they need it most. It really is a fantastic achievement.”

The Valneva team edged a competitive match with a 2-1 win and some fantastic goals.

Mark Jones, Operations Director, Valneva Scotland, said: “Valneva is proud to support Team Jak and to be part of this inspiring initiative. The Team Jak Trophy shows how sport, community, and charity can come together to make a real, positive difference for young people, patients, and their families across Scotland. We set an ambitious target of £10k at the start of the year: we’re a determined bunch and it’s such a great achievement by our staff to have made this happen.”

The match was additionally supported by Bouygues Energies & Services, the contractor behind Valneva’s state-of-the-art Almeida facility, which contributed to the fundraising total.
