UnionPay International has significantly expanded its global acceptance network, now covering 182 countries and regions outside mainland China.

The network offers a diverse range of payment options to cater to travellers’ preferences and local acceptance environments, including cash withdrawals, card payments, QR code payments, and mobile payments.

In Europe, UnionPay cards are accepted by over 90% of merchants, while in Australia and New Zealand, the acceptance rate exceeds 95% at merchants’ POS terminals.

Countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand have widely adopted UnionPay QR code payments.

Additionally, over 5,000 overseas educational institutions accept UnionPay card payments, with exclusive discounts available through Flywire.

Summer Promotional Campaign

UnionPay has launched an extensive summer promotional campaign across 25 countries and regions, targeting Chinese tourists travelling abroad.

The campaign offers merchant discounts of up to 33%, favourable currency exchange rates, and cashback offers of up to 12% from banks.

Over 10,000 merchants and more than 10 banks offering commercial cards are involved in this initiative.

The campaign covers various sectors, including department stores, restaurants, hotels, transportation, and tourist attractions.

Specific offers include discounts on major airlines like United Airlines and Cathay Pacific, promotions at international airports such as Hong Kong, Narita, and Kansai, and exclusive deals for attractions like Royal Caribbean’s “Spectrum of the Seas.”

Popular department stores worldwide, including Harbour City in Hong Kong, Matsuya Ginza in Japan, Harrods in the UK, and Galeries Lafayette in France, are offering discounts for UnionPay cardholders.

Additional Benefits and Strategic Positioning

Additional benefits include preferential exchange rates in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Singapore, Dubai, and Fiji, as well as instant discounts or cashback offers for QR codes or mobile payments in various countries.

In France, cardholders have the opportunity to receive complimentary tickets to the Louvre Museum with qualifying purchases made using their UnionPay card at participating merchants nationwide.

By offering a wide range of payment options, partnering with numerous merchants across various sectors, and providing exclusive discounts and benefits, UnionPay is positioning itself as a leading choice for consumers venturing abroad, particularly Chinese tourists travelling internationally.
