AN Edinburgh legal firm is set to be honoured by blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan, at a digital awards celebration this month.

Turcan Conell has been shortlisted for the Organisational Fundraiser of the Year award at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards 2020.

The prestigious Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards are back for their eighth year and will recognise the outstanding achievements of the volunteers, fundraisers, clinical supporters and donors who help the pioneering blood cancer charity save lives. The awards ceremony is usually held at the Tower of London, but with mass gatherings of this nature currently unable to take place there will be a digital celebration instead, where celebrities and other specially invited supporters will announce the winners of each category in specially pre-recorded films.

Turcan Connell raised over £27,000 for Anthony Nolan over 14 months after partnering with them as their “Charity of the Year” back in 2018. They were inspired to fundraise for the charity while one of their colleagues Hilary Sharkey, was recovering from a stem cell transplant facilitated by Anthony Nolan.

The legal firm took on a variety of fundraising activities including bake sales, dress down days, a corporate hockey tournament as well as having 13 runners take part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and 8 cyclists in Pedal for Scotland. The £27,038 Turcan Connell raised, was enough to add 675 new people to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register.

Louise Johnston, Partner and Head of the Colleague Engagement Group at Turcan Connell, commented: ‘Turcan Connell is thrilled to have been nominated for Anthony Nolan’s Organisational Fundraiser of the Year Award.  We have worked closely with Anthony Nolan for over a year and we are extremely proud to have raised £27,000, which exceeded the target we set ourselves of £20,000, and reflects the dedication of everyone at Turcan Connell to fundraise for such an important charity.

The nomination has been greatly appreciated in recognising the wide variety of fundraising efforts (with everything from a hockey tournament to skydiving) and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the team at Anthony Nolan for their support in helping us achieve our fundraising success.”

Henny Braund, Chief Executive of Anthony Nolan, said: “It is remarkable to see how many people support our work to find a match for those in need of a stem cell transplant. Without them, none of our life-saving work would be possible.

Turcan Connell has shown unbelievable commitment to Anthony Nolan by choosing us as their charity partner and raising such a large amount over 14 months. We are very lucky to have such strong support from their staff, which increases the reach and awareness of our partnership.”

All winners will be revealed at 7pm on Thursday 11th February at www.anthonynolan.org/awards
