A Glasgow business is celebrating a triple win after being named Large Contractor of the Year (Damp & Timber) by national trade body the Property Care Association (PCA).

Richardson & Starling was presented with the award in its 90th year at the PCA’s 15th annual Property Care Awards held at Manchester United FC’s iconic Old Trafford stadium as part of the trade body’s annual conferences in Damp and Timber, Structural Waterproofing and Invasive Weeds.

The company was also Highly Commended for Training and Staff Development, which was reflected by the fact that two team members – David Cooper and Kevin Lumsden – achieved the joint highest score while undergoing Technician (Damp & Timber) training.

As a member of the PCA, Richardson & Starling is committed to meeting the trade body’s expected standards, staying abreast of the latest industry developments and is audited and checked regularly to provide consumers with assurances that they will deliver a high-quality service.

Founded in 1935, Richardson & Starling has 16 branches across Scotland and the North of England and provides a wide range of services from damp proofing and basement waterproofing to timber surveys, structural repair and mould cleaning.

As part of a long-running commitment to excellence and training, Richardson & Starling offer opportunities to undertake training with the PCA, which this year resulted in both David Cooper and Kevin Lumsden achieving the highest scores on the Technician (Damp & Timber) qualification.

More than 20 awards were presented during the ceremony, marking achievements across training and staff development, innovation, sustainability and best practice.

The award for Technician of the Year (Damp and Timber) was sponsored by Safeguard Europe, while the category for Large Contractor of the Year (Damp and Timber) was sponsored by Newton Waterproofing Systems.

PCA Chief Executive Sarah Garry hosted the event. She said: “A PCA award is not easily won.

“Categories such as innovation or sustainability are assessed by independent judges, Contractor of the Year accolades are based on audit outcomes and awards for individual Certificated Surveyors, Technicians and Apprentices are given to those achieving the highest marks.

“The event is a celebration of those who demonstrate an exceptional level of best practice and our congratulations go to Large Contractor of the Year (Damp and Timber) Richardson & Starling and to David Cooper and Kevin Lumsden, the joint Technicians of the Year for Damp and Timber.”
