UK law firm TLT has won the award for Excellence in Client Care at the Scottish Legal Awards 2021.

In particular, the award recognises the Scottish licensing team’s tireless efforts to support the leisure, food and drink industry throughout the pandemic and onto a sure-footed recovery.

The team – the largest in Scotland – worked hand-in-hand with the Scottish government, industry bodies and operators to support the sector, guiding businesses through this existential threat.

Their advice and interventions, much of which was conducted on a pro bono basis, directly resulted in the survival of dozens of businesses, safeguarding an even larger number of jobs and livelihoods.

TLT was also highly commended in the Real Estate Team of the Year category, which the firm won in 2020, and licensing partner Caroline Loudon was nominated for Lawyer of the Year.

John Paul Sheridan, partner and location head for TLT in Scotland, says:

“Client care is a core part of our strategy and that means understanding our clients, anticipating their needs and delivering the best possible solutions. The licensing team’s unwavering dedication to supporting our clients during the pandemic exemplifies this and I am delighted to see their efforts recognised by this prestigious award.

“Our real estate team has also gone from strength to strength. We have successfully embedded a new team following the acquisition of Leslie Wolfson and are doing some of the most strategically important work for our clients in this sector. Congratulations also to Caroline Loudon, who thoroughly deserves her individual nomination as Lawyer of the Year.”

Stephen McGowan, partner and head of licensing (Scotland) at TLT, commented:

“Throughout the pandemic, our licensing team has demonstrated unparalleled resilience and commitment to getting our clients and the wider industry through these difficult times. I am incredibly proud of the team and it is an honour to receive this award.

“The pandemic has brought us even closer to our clients, without whom we would not have won this recognition, so we thank them and look forward to continuing to deliver above and beyond and preparing for what comes next.”
