NO wee tim’rous beastie, Chris van der Kuyl CBE, FRSE, the six foot-six technology entrepreneur was a special guest at the 205th Burns Supper hosted by the Dunfermline United Burns Club. Swapping video games for literary inspiration, the Dundonian gave the Toast to the Lasses at the historic club’s traditional anniversary event which donated the proceeds to several local charities.

More than 175 guests enjoyed the evening’s entertainment at Keavil House Hotel, Crossford, which also included the Immortal Memory given by mezzo soprano Frances McCafferty and the Reply on behalf of the Lasses by Lesslie Young.

Musical entertainment was provided by Jock the Box and Fiona Mackenzie-Nobel and recitations were performed by Alison McFarlane.

Keith McFarlane, Chair of the DUBC said:

“It is great to see that Robert Burns still has such an important place in Scottish culture. It is a joy that so many people continue to celebrate the contribution his poems and songs make to our modern lives. Burns’ words and wisdom will forever be an inspiration.

“My thanks to everyone who made this year’s dinner such a success.”
