KNIGHT Property Group has secured a new tenant for its prime retail offering at 67 George Street, in the heart of Edinburgh city centre.

The Cambridge Satchel Company is relocating from an existing store on George Street and has agreed a ten-year lease on the 1,436 sq ft retail unit, which is arranged over the ground and basement floors of the classic stone-built tenement building.

The Cambridge Satchel Company was created in 2008 by Julie Deane CBE and is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of premium leather bags and satchels at affordable prices. The company employs a multi-channel distribution strategy that includes stores in London, Cambridge, Edinburgh and soon to open in Shanghai; a presence at selective retailers in the UK and abroad; support from a network of wholesalers as well as a global online presence.

Earlier this year, The Cambridge Satchel Company was acquired by French-owned Chargeurs, who will accelerate the growth and protect the unique signature of this iconic British brand.

Jennifer Dalgliesh, Scotland Distribution Manager of The Cambridge Satchel Company said:

“We were keen to remain in the heart of George Street for our Edinburgh base and this unit is perfect for our needs. The fit-out is progressing well and we look forward to re-opening shortly and bringing our unique range of premium leather goods to this store.”

Howard Crawshaw, Managing Director of Knight Property Group added:

“Securing such a prestigious brand for this prime unit is great news and we wish The Cambridge Satchel Company every success. Despite the move to online trading, many consumers are still seeking the positive in-store experience this occupier can bring.”

James Godfrey, Partner at Culverwell said:

“George Street is Edinburgh’s premier thoroughfare and we always receive very strong retail demand for this type of well-located unit.  It offers The Cambridge Satchel Company the ideal base in the heart of this prestigious street.”

The unit, formerly occupied by Sweaty Betty is situated on the north side of George Street, between Hanover Street and Frederick Street and also benefits from an outstanding range of hotels, bars, restaurants and cafes in the immediate surrounds, as well as excellent city centre transport links.

Culverwell is agent for Knight Property Group at 67 George Street.
