Swedish micromobility giant Voi Technology UK Ltd has emerged as the winner of Edinburgh’s highly anticipated new cycle hire scheme. The decision, hailed as a major advancement in the city’s efforts to promote sustainable transport, comes after a competitive tender process involving several prominent firms.

Voi will lead the introduction and operation of a fresh fleet of e-bikes across the Scottish capital. Council officials announced the move was part of a renewed drive to deliver environmentally friendly and accessible mobility options for residents and visitors alike.

Edinburgh previously saw its Just Eat Cycles scheme collapsed in 2021 due to financial pressures and operational hurdles. The contract awarded to Voi marks a renewed commitment from the council to revitalise active travel infrastructure and position Edinburgh at the forefront of green urban mobility in Scotland.

With Voi’s proven track record running successful bike and e-scooter fleets in other UK cities, expectations are high that Edinburgh’s new e-bike network will offer a reliable and affordable alternative to car journeys, helping reduce emissions and congestion in the city. The scheme is set to include convenient docking stations across key locations to enhance usability and encourage more people to embrace cycling as a primary mode of transport.

Further details on the official launch date, pricing, and operational specifics are due to be released in the coming weeks, as the city prepares to welcome back hire bikes under Voi’s stewardship.
