St Andrews Links Trust has unveiled its officially registered Home of Golf tartan, marking a significant new chapter in the evolution of the world-renowned destination’s identity.

Launched today and available to purchase online, the tartan has been developed in collaboration with The Isle Mill, part of the Macnaughton Group – a family-run Scottish company with more than 240 years of textile heritage.

Rooted in centuries of tradition, tartan has long symbolised belonging and shared heritage across Scotland’s families and communities. The newly introduced Home of Golf tartan continues this legacy, offering a design intended to unite golfers worldwide through their connection to St Andrews, widely regarded as the birthplace of the sport.

The tartan’s palette draws inspiration directly from the iconic St Andrews landscape. A navy base anchors the design, complemented by a sand tone reflecting the sandstone of the Swilcan Bridge and historic town buildings. A soft lilac nods to the heather lining the links and the evening skies over the Old Course’s 18th hole, while a sea blue captures the surrounding coastal waters and the winding Swilcan Burn.

A range of products featuring the tartan is now available, spanning golf apparel and lifestyle items including polo shirts, baseball caps, headcovers, throws and even a teddy bear. Prices range from £30 to £120, with selected items offering personalisation options.

Kevin Liddle, Head of Retail at St Andrews Links Trust, said: “Tartan is one of Scotland’s most important storytelling traditions and we are thrilled to bring the Home of Golf tartan into our retail offering. Building on the success of our previous tartan ranges, this new collection gives every visitor the chance to take a piece of St Andrews home with them.”

The launch forms part of a broader refresh of the Home of Golf brand, including the introduction of an updated logo. Together, these elements aim to strengthen a visual identity that reflects both the heritage and contemporary spirit of St Andrews.

James Ralley, Commercial Director at St Andrews Links Trust, added: “The Home of Golf tartan design weaves together the iconic elements of our links environment – from the stone of the Swilcan Bridge to the heather lining our courses – making a great addition to our visual identity.

“The Home of Golf brand is about connection, and this tartan, alongside the new Home of Golf logo, creates a tangible link that unites golfers around the world through their shared love for the birthplace of the game.”

The collection will also be available in-store at the new Home of Golf Hub, set to open in the heart of St Andrews in late July. The space will serve as a permanent community, information and retail destination – the first of its kind for the Trust within the town centre.

Looking ahead, the Home of Golf tartan is set to become the Trust’s primary tartan from Spring 2027, rolling out across all official merchandise stores. Until then, the Home of Golf Hub on Market Street will be the only physical location where visitors can purchase the collection in 2026.
