A major extension to Frogston Primary School in Edinburgh has been completed, providing six new classrooms alongside additional office and breakout space to support the school’s growing roll.
The original building, which opened in 2021, was designed with future expansion in mind as part of the City of Edinburgh Council’s wider strategy to accommodate significant housing developments outlined in the City Plan 2030. Foundations were extended during the initial build to ensure the new accommodation could integrate seamlessly with the existing structure.
The latest phase of works also includes new external facilities and landscaping, with materials carefully selected to complement the appearance of the original building.
Structural and civil engineering services were delivered by Will Rudd, a locally based, multi-award-winning consultancy. The project was completed while the school remained fully operational, with construction carefully scheduled around teaching hours to minimise disruption. The connection between the original building and the extension required only minimal alterations, further reducing impact on day-to-day school life.
Frogston Primary now supports more than 500 learners, including approximately 100 nursery children and 400 primary pupils. The £4.6 million development has been built to an enhanced energy performance standard and is set to welcome pupils following the summer holidays.

Holmes Miller acted as architect on the project, with Henry Brothers appointed as main contractor. Project management and quantity surveying were delivered by AtkinsRéalis, landscaping by ERZ, and M&E design by Blackwood Partnership.
