Sextet of influential figures celebrated at University of the West of Scotland graduations

A sextet of influential figures, including journalist and broadcaster Clive Myrie, will be celebrated at University of the West of Scotland’s (UWS) Winter graduations this week.

Aileen Ponton, John Loughton BEM, Alex Gray, Professor Mark Girolami, Angela Noon OBE and Clive Myrie will be awarded Honorary Doctorates as part of the University’s Winter graduation ceremonies at Paisley Abbey, running from Tuesday 12th to Friday 15th November.

Education qualifications leader, Aileen Ponton, will be recognised at the 10.30am ceremony on Tuesday 12 November with John Loughton, social entrepreneur and CEO of Dare2Lead receiving his award at the 2pm ceremony.

On Thursday 14 November, author Alex Gray will receive her Honorary Doctorate in the morning ceremony, with UWS alumni and Chief Scientist of The Alan Turing Institute Professor Mark Girolami receiving his award in the afternoon.

On Friday morning at 10.30am, another UWS alumni, Angela Noon OBE, Chief Financial Offier at Spectris will receive her Honorary Doctorate. The week of awardees concludes with journalist, broadcaster and writer, Clive Myrie receiving his degree in a ceremony at 2pm.

Professor James Miller, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UWS, said: “Graduation is a highlight in every academic year, a special occasion for both our incredible students but the wider University. Graduations, as a milestone event for our students, gives us the opportunity to both reflect and celebrate their amazing achievements.

“Alongside our students, we are delighted to be recognising the significant contributions of six inspirational individuals, who, throughout their careers, have made a huge impact in their respective fields and the wider world, all of whom embody the values important to us here at UWS.”
