Senior promotions at law firm

ONE of Scotland’s leading law firms, Thorntons, is beginning the New Year with two newly promoted partners and a new legal director.

The two new partners are Gary Mannion from the Personal Injury team in Dundee and Lucy Metcalf from the family law team in Edinburgh. Janice Napier has also been recognised and appointed to legal director in Business Law within the commercial property team in Perth.

Gary Mannion studied law at Dundee University then completed his traineeship at Thorntons to become a qualified lawyer.

As an accredited specialist in personal injury law, Gary is one of the most senior and experienced personal injury lawyers at Thorntons. He manages a team of Paralegals and junior Solicitors and appears at Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland.

Lucy Metcalf has practised exclusively in litigation and has specialised in family law for the majority of her career, she joined the Thorntons’ Family Law team in May 2019 building the firm’s reputation in the capital.

Lucy is a member of the Family Law Association and of Consensus, the Scottish Collaborative Family Lawyers Group. She is committed to the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) wherever appropriate and is a trustee of Scottish Adoption, a national adoption agency which delivers high quality placement and adoption services across Scotland. She has particular expertise in cases involving financial issues, particularly company and partnership valuations and pension sharing, and extensive agreement in negotiating and drafting complex minutes of agreement dealing with the disposal and transfer of business assets.

Janice Napier graduated from Aberdeen University and started her career completing a traineeship with an Elgin firm. Dual qualified in Scottish and English law, Janice is a specialist in commercial property and joined Thorntons in 2006.

Janice advises clients on all aspects of commercial property work, from commercial leasing, development site acquisition and sale and purchase, through to property finance and lease portfolio management. As Legal Director, Janice will continue to be service driven and support the expansion of the commercial property team.
