LEADING negotiation skills development consultancy Scotwork has announced it has appointed a new CEO to lead its UK business.
Horace McDonald, previously a Sales and Marketing Director at the firm, has been selected as the new Chief Executive Officer, and will be tasked with growing the UK business and expanding the capabilities of the team.
Headquartered in Glasgow since 1975, Scotwork has grown into the world’s number one independent negotiation consultancy, operating in 120 countries from 46 offices. It uses its data-driven insights and expertise to provide impactful negotiation training, advice and coaching to a global portfolio of clients. It has coached hundreds of thousands of senior managers across the world, covering 29 different languages.
Horace started his career in Marketing at Unilever before moving onto a sales role for Superdrug, where he was thrust into challenging negotiation environments. He then moved onto roles at EMI Records and Virgin Records before taking a career break to develop a print-on-demand business. In 2010 Horace started his first job with a negotiation firm where he developed a passion for the subject and had considerable success in growing the practice. He then spent three years at a boutique market research company as Managing Director for Europe, leading a team of over 50 researchers. Horace landed at Scotwork in early 2021 as Business Development Director.
Commenting on his new role, Horace said: “I am thrilled to be appointed as Scotwork’s new UK CEO. I’ve had a fantastic couple of years at the firm and look forward to developing and growing the business in this next chapter.
“I am passionate about inspiring businesses and helping people to be more confident in selling and developing commercial relationships, securing the best deals for their business. It’s a cliche but every business is only as good as the quality and the passion of its people. Providing guidance, empowering them to make choices and being a sounding board to help guide their decision making are the things that I do best.
“It’s a real privilege to accept this new role, and I look forward to further supporting our existing clients as well as growing the business, building on our reputation for providing invaluable advice and training.”
Stephen White, Chairman of Scotwork UK, added: “Horace has an abundance of experience, a strong track record and an unrivalled knowledge of our business, making him an excellent choice to lead our UK operation. We have ambitious growth plans and Horace is evidence of our commitment to attract and retain the best talent in the market so we can continue to provide a top-class service to our clients whilst looking to grow our revenue.”
