Three Scottish firms have been recognised in the inaugural Sunday Times 100 Tech list, a ranking of the UK’s fastest-growing private tech companies. The list highlights innovative businesses driving growth and innovation across the country.

Glasgow-based Utopi emerged as Scotland’s fastest-growing tech company, claiming the top spot regionally. Utopi specialises in property smart sensors and reported a remarkable three-year annual sales growth rate of 182.87%, with revenues reaching £6 million in 2024. The company’s cutting-edge sensors are increasingly being adopted by high-profile clients, including Lloyds Banking Group and Vita Student, to monitor property environments and improve efficiency.

Joining Utopi in the national spotlight are Skyrora and Safer Group, both making significant strides in their respective industries.

  • Skyrora, also based in Glasgow, is advancing space launch services with a mission to launch rockets from the SaxaVord spaceport. The company achieved 99.26% annual sales growth, generating £30.8 million last year.
  • Safer Group, headquartered in Inverclyde, focuses on site security technology. The firm reported 84.69% annual sales growth, reaching revenues of £10.2 million.

Growth Across the UK

The Sunday Times 100 Tech list, compiled in partnership with Beauhurst, revealed impressive achievements across the UK. Collectively, the featured companies generated £3.2 billion in sales in 2024, marking a £2.6 billion increase over three years. The firms also created 11,200 new jobs, bringing their total workforce to 20,700.

London dominated the rankings, with over half of the companies based in the capital, but Scotland’s strong representation highlights its growing prominence in the tech sector.

A Bright Future for Scottish Tech

Utopi’s success underscores the potential for Scottish tech companies to excel on a national stage. Co-founded in 2019 by Jonathan Burridge, Falk Bleyl, Ben Roberts, and John Trower, Utopi reached a milestone of 100,000 devices installed globally last year. The company’s rapid growth and innovative solutions position it as a key player in Scotland’s burgeoning tech ecosystem.

As the global tech industry continues to expand, these Scottish firms demonstrate that innovation, resilience, and growth remain hallmarks of the nation’s entrepreneurial spirit.
