Edinburgh-based mission-led company Matter of Focus has announced today its certification as a registered B CorporationTM (or B Corp®), joining a growing global community of companies who are reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.

Matter of Focus has been certified by B Lab® UK as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit. This is a good fit for Matter of Focus as a mission-led company working with the public and third sector to help them understand their impact. A score of 80 is required for certification; Matter of Focus achieved a score of 91.5.

Matter of Focus is now part of a community of over 2800 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. There are currently 215 B Corps in the UK. The B Corp community is reflective of the UK economy with businesses from a cross section of industries and sizes. These include well-known brands like innocent, Patagonia, Pukka Herbs, Abel & Cole, Divine, and JoJo Maman Bebe.

The Scottish Government is encouraging more businesses to commit to high social and environmental standards in keeping with their vision to make Scotland a wealthier, fairer, forward-looking nation. They have invested in Scotland Can B (the Scottish arm of the B Corp movement) who supported Matter of Focus in achieving their B Corp assessment.

“We are delighted to be joining a community of like-minded business leaders who care about making a difference in the world. At Matter of Focus we support organisations in the public and voluntary sectors and we know that budgets are tight. It does not chime with our values to be maximising profits in this environment. We need be financially sustainable, but for us making money and making a difference go hand in hand.” Says Sarah Morton Co-Founding Director of Matter of Focus

Kate Sandle, Director of Programmes and Engagement of B Lab UK, says “Being able to welcome Matter of Focus to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.”

Delfina Zagarzazu from Scotland Can B, said “Matter of Focus has always been in our radar as a start-up so relevant to our mission to build a culture of impact management in Scotland. We are very glad our training supported them on their business journey. Their decision now to become a B Corp shows their commitment to making this part of an ongoing journey and be part of a growing community in Scotland and globally.”
