Thermapply, the UK’s leader in engineered anti-slip surface systems, has successfully completed the first phase of a major project to enhance both safety and aesthetics at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, the iconic home of Scottish Rugby.
The project saw the installation of the firm’s revolutionary patented anti-slip stadium stairs system, Thermagrip, across multiple key areas of the stadium, including the Royal Box, player access routes, and spectator steps, ahead of Scotland’s opening match in the 2025 Quilter Nations Series against the USA on November 1st.
Designed to combine elite-level safety with architectural sensitivity, the installation was delivered within a tight pre-season schedule and finished in Scottish Rugby’s distinctive national colours and logo, ensuring the work complemented the visual identity and prestige of one of the world’s most iconic rugby venues.

The bespoke anti-slip nosing and tread systems were precision-engineered for the varying dimensions of the Royal Box and surrounding tiers, each tailored to ensure a seamless fit. Using Thermagrip’s proprietary thermoplastic composite surface bonded to aluminium sub-bases, the result delivers superior grip, durability, and long-term performance in both wet and dry conditions.
The upgrade not only meets but exceeds DDA, HSE, and BS EN safety standards, ensuring that guests in the Royal Box and fans in surrounding stands experience the same unwavering safety underfoot.
