AN investment programme for a Glasgow-based galvanizing business has culminated in the installation of a new £300,000 galvanizing bath.
The team at Scottish Galvanizers Ltd, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd, saw its new bath installed at its Maclellan Street site, along with a brand-new canopy incorporating an enhanced lighting and fume extraction system.
This latest project brings the plant’s total investment in both its site and equipment to over £1 million in the last three years, and marks the wider business’s commitment to ensuring optimum process efficiencies and a superior quality of galvanizing finish.
The plant’s old galvanizing bath was replaced with a like-for-like bath measuring 14.2m by 1.22m by 3.3m deep. Weighing almost 50 tonnes, the bath remains the largest in Scotland. Outside of Scotland, Wedge Group Galvanizing also offers the largest galvanizing bath in the UK at its Worksop Galvanizing Ltd. plant, which can handle materials up to 29metres in length.
Paul Tait, Commercial Manager at Scottish Galvanizers, said: “Galvanizing baths need to be replaced every 10 years. Due to the exceptional performance and efficiency of the high velocity furnace system we use, supplied by Hasco Thermic, our old bath was in service for 13 years – but we felt that now was the right time to have it replaced.
“This essential upgrade forms part of our ongoing investment in the enhancement of our facilities, ensuring the galvanizing service we provide to our customers is of the highest possible quality.
