SCOTTISH Friendly colleagues have successfully undertaken the Boycott Your Bed Challenge, raising vital funds for Action for Children
Colleagues have already raised a total of £11,600 for Action for Children.
Adam Stewart, Andrew Harrison, Annemarie Gavin, Christine Manson, Jill Mackay, Kate McLean, Kathryn Reid, Monica Taggart, Nicola Jackson, Ricky MacIntyre, Sharon Boyd and Steven Thomson successfully undertook the Boycott Your Bed Challenge in Glasgow.
Boycott Your Bed is held annually by Action for Children in various locations across the UK. It is an opportunity for corporate teams to come together and raise money by spending the night sleeping outside with only a sleeping mat and bag. It is a popular fundraiser which has raised over £13.5 million since it first began over 25 years ago, providing essential funding for children who face every night without a safe place to sleep.
The night began at the Renfield Centre in Glasgow, where individual teams met each other, listened to speakers from Action for Children, as well as hearing directly from young people who have received support from the charity. Afterwards, they headed off to Blythswood Square Gardens to find a place to set up and sleep for the night.
Jill Mackay, Head of Marketing at Scottish Friendly, commented: “Well done to all of our colleagues who took up the Boycott Your Bed challenge for our charity partner, Action for Children. By taking part, they have helped raise vital funding to support those children who need it most during the most challenge of times. Thank you for all of your efforts and also to everyone else who has supported the team by providing vital donations.
“We hope that the funds raised will support Action for Children in continuing the incredible work they do to support vulnerable young people and their families across Scotland.”
Fiona Steel, National Director for Scotland at Action for Children, commented:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Scottish Friendly for their support and to the colleagues who undertook this year’s Boycott your Bed challenge to raise money for Action for Children.
“So far, Friday’s sleep outs across the UK have raised over quarter of a million pounds which will have a life changing impact on the children and families we support, allowing us to offer practical help like a hot meal or warm clothes this winter.
“The fundraising efforts of our supporters are essential to our work helping families across Scotland, and it’s so heartening after 17 years of the event in Glasgow to see the supporter community remain strong – we cannot wait to welcome them back next year.”
