Dr Liz Cameron CBE, who has led the Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) for nearly 20 years, is stepping down from her role as Chief Executive.
Known as one of Scotland’s most influential business figures, Cameron’s tenure saw remarkable transformation and growth for the organisation, as she steered the SCC to a prominent position representing thousands of businesses across Scotland.
Her extensive experience includes both executive and non-executive roles in several sectors, bringing credibility and vision to Scotland’s business community.
During Cameron’s leadership, the SCC developed new public-private partnerships, significantly expanded international trade activities, and championed the globalisation of Scottish businesses.
She played a pivotal role in establishing Scottish Trade Offices abroad and galvanising a worldwide network of Chamber Ambassadors.
Notably, Cameron’s initiatives led to the onboarding of hundreds of new exporters, considerable increases in business turnover, and the creation of new jobs for Scottish SMEs.
Cameron’s commitment to Scotland’s economy, business, and international trade has earned her major honours, including the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
As she prepares for new professional horizons, her legacy at the SCC is characterised by her authentic, transformative vision and tireless advocacy for Scottish business interests on the world stage. The SCC Board and partner organisations have publicly celebrated her contributions and commitment.
Dr Cameron CBE said: “I’ve loved being part of an organisation that believes in the power of business to transform lives and communities.
“Promoting and selling our brilliant businesses, here and on the international stage has been a privilege and I have been so fortunate to be surrounded over the years by dynamic boards and talented management teams, supported by a vibrant chamber network fully committed to supporting growth, innovation and investment.
“SCC is a powerful voice for business, future-ready for the challenges ahead, and I’m honoured to have built that strong foundation.
“We would not have been as successful without proactive partnerships and I’m particularly proud to have brought together the private and public sectors to positively impact business and the economy.
“And, of course, it has been both entertaining, if a tad tricky at times, diplomatically working with political parties to help them understand what business needs.
In Case You Missed It:
“After 21 years, I’m stepping into new opportunities, building on past successes by supporting businesses with passion, insight, and a global, cross-sector perspective to drive positive impact.”
The Scottish Chambers of Commerce now looks toward its next chapter, aiming to build on Cameron’s legacy by continuing to strengthen international partnerships, trade missions, and advocacy for business growth.
The SCC remains a key driver of Scotland’s economic revival, and its board is committed to shaping forward-looking strategy for the country’s business sector.
