A Scottish businessman has been discovered dead in Kenya, his body found in a sack approximately 60 miles from Nairobi with his hands and legs bound by rope.

Campbell Scott, 58, from Dunfermline, Fife, had arrived in Nairobi on February 15 for a business conference at the JW Marriott Hotel. He was last seen the following evening in the company of an unidentified individual after visiting a nightclub.

Local authorities have arrested two suspects – a taxi driver and a waiter from the nightclub – who are believed to be among the last people to see Mr. Scott alive. The discovery was made on Saturday when a cattle herder noticed a body inside a sack in the Makongo forest area.

Initial reports indicate strangulation as the cause of death, with a post-mortem scheduled for Tuesday at Makueni county referral hospital. The victim’s body reportedly showed signs of burning, which investigators believe may have been an attempt to conceal his identity.

Mr. Scott served as a senior director at credit scoring company Fico, where he had worked since 2014. A company spokesperson expressed their devastation at the news, stating: “Campbell was a leader in our international Scores business. He was instrumental in introducing Scores to new markets and growing our business with existing partnerships. We mourn his passing and will miss his humor and kindness.”

The BBC’s deputy Africa editor, Anne Soy, noted the unusual nature of the case: “It is particularly unusual, especially since the victim was a foreigner who had just arrived in the country. He was preparing to meet with other businessmen for what seems to be legitimate business, which has truly astonished people.”

The UK Foreign Office has confirmed they are “supporting the family of a British man who has died in Kenya and are in contact with the local authorities.”
