Eleven Scottish companies have been recognised with this year’s King’s Awards for Enterprise, highlighting standout achievements in innovation, international trade and social mobility across the country.

The awards, regarded as one of the UK’s most prestigious business honours, were granted to a diverse mix of firms ranging from crystal glassmakers to subsea technology pioneers. Three businesses were recognised for innovation, seven for international trade, and one for promoting opportunity through social mobility.

Among the innovation winners was Glencairn Crystal Studio in South Lanarkshire. The family-run glassware firm, known for its iconic whisky glasses, was praised for its creative edge. New product development director Scott Davidson said:
“This award is a testament to the passion, creativity and dedication of everyone here at Glencairn Crystal. Innovation is at the core of everything we do, and we’re proud to be pushing boundaries in glassware.”

Aberdeen-based Impact Subsea was honoured in the international trade category for its global success in underwater sensor technology. Managing director Benedict Grant commented:
“It’s a proud moment for us, recognising our commitment to excellence and our success in expanding our reach in the global, subsea technology sector.”

Minister for Services, Small Businesses and Exports Gareth Thomas added:
“There are some excellent Scottish businesses recognised in this year’s King’s Awards – from Impact Subsea’s cutting-edge technology to Glencairn Crystal’s premium glassware. I wish the winners every success as they continue to grow, innovate and prosper.”

Now in its 59th year, the King’s Awards programme has acknowledged over 8,000 UK companies since 1965. Winning businesses are allowed to fly the King’s Awards flag at their headquarters, use the emblem in their branding, and receive a commemorative crystal trophy and official Grant of Appointment.

Charandeep Singh, deputy chief executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce and a judge for the awards, encouraged others to apply:
“The calibre of this year’s Scottish winners was truly inspiring. I would strongly encourage more Scottish businesses to put themselves forward – it’s a fantastic opportunity to gain national recognition and showcase the outstanding entrepreneurship happening right here in Scotland.”
