Scottish bus operator Midland Bluebird is investing £14 million in 30 new single-decker electric buses from Chinese manufacturer Yutong.

The investment marks a significant step in the company’s modernisation program following its acquisition by McGill’s in September 2022, which has seen an 8% year-on-year passenger growth.

The 30 new state-of-the-art electric buses will be deployed on routes across the Forth Valley and into Edinburgh.

McGill’s already operates more than 100 electric buses.

Sandy Easdale, director and co-owner of McGill’s Group, said: “When we took over Midland Bluebird, we made a firm commitment to invest in the business and its future. This landmark £14 million investment is proof of that promise. We are determined to provide our passengers with the best possible travel experience, and introducing state-of-the-art electric buses is a key part of that strategy coupled with significant investment in infrastructure to support the fleet.”

This development represents one of Scotland’s latest moves toward sustainable public transportation, with the vehicles expected to begin operations in the near future.
