The Eco Experts latest National Home Energy Survey has revealed Scotland had the highest solar panel adoption rate in 2024 of UK regions.

The 2024 National Home Energy Survey of 2,184 UK adults found that of those in Scotland who had purchased low-carbon technology (LTC), 29% had purchased solar panels. This made solar panels the most popular LCT purchase for Scots.

High energy bills driving low carbon tech adoption.

The National Home Energy Survey found that high energy bills were the main driving force behind the UK public adopting green technology.

Energy bill costs have significantly risen in the past few years resulting in households.

searching for alternative solutions. The average three-bedroom house will enjoy a 50% reduction in energy bills from the first day of operating solar panels, making it a viable solution for those looking to save and want energy independence.

The Eco Experts study also found high satisfaction rates across the UK for solar panels, 87% of people are either satisfied or very satisfied with their solar panel purchase. High satisfaction rates are most likely due to energy bill savings from the first day of installation.

Content Manager for The Eco Experts, Maximilian Schwerdtfeger, comments: “Customers often see the benefits of using solar panels very quickly, which is why satisfaction levels among those who purchase them are so high.

“The significant uptake of solar panels in Scotland is an extremely encouraging sign for the future of solar energy, particularly as the government sets out trying to turn the UK into a clean energy superpower.

“It also shows that the upfront cost of solar panels, which can be a barrier to some people, is not holding Scottish customers back as much as it is elsewhere.

“The industry should step up its efforts to show customers how solar panels can help them to cut their energy bills.”

Managing Director of Project Solar UK, Tom Armstrong, adds: “It’s incredibly heartening to see that the vast majority of those who invest in low-carbon technologies are extremely satisfied with their choice.

Over the last 13 years, we’ve consistently received the same positive feedback from our customers, who report significant savings on energy costs and a notable boost in efficiency thanks to their solar panels.”
