In a bold move, Sainsbury’s has become the first UK supermarket to extend its Aldi Price Match scheme to its convenience stores.
This initiative, launched just before the festive season, aims to offer customers top value in over 1,400 shops nationwide.
Up to 200 everyday essentials will now be price-matched with Aldi in Sainsbury’s Local stores. The list includes popular items such as milk, bread, butter, pasta, rice, chicken, and fresh veg.
This means shoppers can enjoy competitive prices on their daily staples without trekking to larger supermarkets.
Simon Roberts, Sainsbury’s Chief Executive, said the move demonstrates their commitment to delivering great value, whether customers are shopping online or popping into their local shop.
The scheme replaces the previous Pocket Friendly Prices offer, simplifying Sainsbury’s value proposition across all its stores.
This change follows a recent update to Sainsbury’s convenience store experience, with improved layouts and a 7% increase in product range.
Whether customers are grabbing a sarnie for lunch or picking up dinner ingredients, they’ll now find more choice and better value.
As Christmas approaches, this initiative could help households stretch their budgets further.
By bringing discount prices to local neighbourhoods, Sainsbury’s is not only challenging its rivals but also redefining convenience shopping in the UK.
Simon Roberts, Chief Executive at Sainsbury’s, said: “Since setting out to put food back at the heart of our business four years ago, we’ve invested nearly £1 billion in value.
“Our Next Level Sainsbury’s strategy is about giving customers more of what they come to Sainsbury’s for – outstanding value, unbeatable quality food and great service.
“In our Sainsbury’s Locals, we’ve worked hard to offer market leading prices on essential items and popular breakfast, lunch and dinner staples.
“We have also refreshed our Local store layouts and rebalanced space, increasing the number of products in store by 7 per cent and adding more food on the move products – the primary mission of most convenience shoppers.
“When you’re shopping in Sainsbury’s Locals, you can be sure of excellent value, quality and choice.
“With Christmas just around the corner, we know that every penny counts and we are committed to helping our customers make the most of the festive season.”
