Recycling group launches £21,000 community support fund

09/04/2024

IN SUPPORT of the commitment to its local communities, The NWH Group, a leading, family-owned, national waste management and recycling business, has announced an annual pledge of £21,000 to help fund private, community-led, charities.

With the aim of empowering local charities to sustain their vital community-based activities, NWH first launched its community fund in 2016 and has since donated £168,000 to good causes.

The fund, which is open now for applications, operates on a transparent and inclusive basis. Charities aligned with the NWH Group’s core pillars of support, operating and supporting the local communities in which it operates, will be eligible to apply for funding. These pillars encompass:

Recycling education for young people: encouraging and facilitating environmental awareness and sustainable practices for young people aged 18 and under.

Carbon reduction: investing in initiatives aimed at reducing carbon footprint.

Talent growth: nurturing talent through scholarships, apprenticeships, and skills development programs.

Mental wellbeing: promoting mental health initiatives and supporting programs that foster emotional resilience and wellbeing.

The NWH Group has outlined its commitment to allocate funds three times a year (in tranches of £7,000) ensuring a consistent and impactful support system for the selected charities. The selection process will be overseen by a committee of individuals employed by The NWH Group.

Commenting on the initiative, Gavin Money, Managing Director of The NWH Group, said: As a company deeply rooted in the communities we serve, we understand the significance of supporting local initiatives that foster positive change. Our new community support initiative underlines our unwavering commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, and with this initiative, we aim to set a commendable precedent for corporate social responsibility in the waste management sector.”

The application process for the fund’s first release for 2024 is open now until 15th April, with two further awards taking place later in the year. Charities interested in applying should complete the application form online and submit proposals that highlight alignment with The NWH Group’s pillars of support while demonstrating the impact of these initiatives within the community.

The first disbursement of funds is scheduled for April 2024, marking the beginning of a transformative journey aimed at enhancing the resilience and vibrancy of local communities across The NWH Group’s operational areas: Dalkeith, Dumfries and Carlisle, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Stranraer.
