New figures show the Scottish Government’s Warmer Homes Scotland (WHS) scheme helped reduce energy costs by an estimated £3.4million across more than 7,300 households last year.

The record number of upgrades carried out by Warmworks, the managing agent for the scheme, is revealed in the latest WHS annual report, published today on national Fuel Poverty Awareness Day.

The scheme supported a total of 7,334 households – the equivalent of 30 every day – which is the highest number in any year since WHS launched in 2015.

The WHS scheme offers funding for wall insulation, loft insulation, draught-proofing, renewables and central heating – including new air source heat pumps or efficient gas boilers.

Scottish Government Ministers boosted funding for the initiative by £20million last year as part of their commitment to tackling fuel poverty.

The energy efficiency work in 2024/25 is estimated to have cut CO2 emissions by more than 5,900 tonnes, the same impact on the environment as removing 4,000 cars from Scotland’s roads.

Upgrades carried out by Warmworks and its supply chain helped reduce household energy bills by an average of £466 per household, or a combined total of approximately £3.4m in the last year alone.

The WHS scheme has now supported close to 50,000 homes since being launched a decade ago.

It helps to reduce energy bills while addressing health inequalities, improving education outcomes and cutting carbon emissions.

“I am pleased to see the Scottish Government’s investment in this initiative paying off, with a record number of households supported in the last year. I hope to see many more people benefit from these energy efficiency upgrades in the coming years.”

Ross Armstrong, Chief Executive of Warmworks, said: “This has been a record year for the Warmer Homes Scotland scheme, and I’m incredibly proud of what Warmworks has delivered for households across the country in 2024/25, with the support of our supply chain and partners.

“More than 7,300 homes and families are now living warmer, healthier lives and benefitting from lower fuel bills, but we know there’s more to be done.
