THE Scottish Government’s forthcoming Energy Strategy and Just Transition Plan will commit to a deployment ambition of at least 4GW, but up to 6GW, of solar power by 2030.

Responding, Helen Melone, a Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, said:

“The renewable energy industry has been calling on the Scottish Government to set Scotland-specific targets for solar PV and welcomes the announcement of these ambitious new targets of 4–6GW by 2030.

“Solar power has an important role to play in generating electricity in Scotland, and the UK, and these targets will build investor confidence in the sector, create jobs and accelerate the transition to green energy.

“However, the Scottish Government must set out a clear plan with key milestones on how this level of deployment will be achieved via commercial rooftop, domestic rooftops and for utility-scale ground-mounted solar. And it must ensure that Scotland’s public sector harnesses the full solar energy potential of its buildings by 2030.

“We look forward to working with the Scottish Government on developing a solar pipeline to achieve these pioneering ambitions.”
