US Pizza Chain, Papa John’s, has announced its intention to close 50 restaurants across the UK and that Scottish locations may be at risk. The announcement comes at a time the group is producing record sales. The group produced a record £1 billion pound sales result in the fourth quarter of 2023 – this being a ten percent increase on the corresponding quarter in 2022.
The company has not yet announced which of its 450 UK restaurants will close but it has confirmed that staff will be ‘first to know’.
A statement said: “Based on our current analysis, we are planning to close approximately 50 underperforming corporate-owned locations. The strategic closure of these restaurants would give us the opportunity to invest back into the right locations with the right partners; optimising the brand for long-term growth.
“For any proposed restaurant closures that impact team members, we will work to find alternative roles within Papa Johns.”
