Three generations of the MacGregor family – owners of one of the country’s leading recycling and resource management companies – have pledged their ongoing support for Perth Show.
Binn Group has once again stepped up as main sponsors for the two-day annual agricultural showcase, with a five-figure sum. And organisers have praised the family’s commitment to their farming roots that has helped sustain Perth Show for many years.
Show chairman Philip Murrie said the financial and in-kind support given by Binn Group proved vital in staging an increasingly expensive event.
“Costs continue to rise for Perth Show,” he said. “Binn Group’s unstinting support is extremely welcome each year, and we are immensely grateful.
“Binn Group is an integral part of the show in many ways – including as trade stand holder and key sponsor – and we can’t thank them enough for their continued commitment and encouragement.”
This year, the 163rd Perth Show will take place on the South Inch on Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd.
Binn Group chairman John MacGregor (80), son Allan (56) and grandson Guy (26) are all committed to seeing the event they grew up with survive and thrive.
All three generations are involved with Binn Group, which operates throughout Scotland, but they are keen to embrace their farming heritage.
John MacGregor explained that his family’s connection dates back to the early 70s when he manned a trade stand at the event selling Binn Farm Fresh Meats from the award-winning herd at their Glenfarg farms.
“I’ve been farming all my life and I know the work that goes into staging Perth Show every year,” said John. “As a local business, I want to support what has been a key event on the Perthshire calendar for over 160 years and help ensure it continues to prove a draw for local townspeople as well as the farming and equestrian communities from across Scotland.”
“Perth Show is a part of all our lives,” said Allan. “I remember as a teenager cooking burgers and sausages at Dad’s meat stand. I loved to wander among the cattle and machinery and still make a point of going round with Dad each year for a look at everything.
“The show was like a holiday for us – two great days out. And it still is.”
Guy’s only dip into farming was roguing barley each year to earn some pocket money.
“I always helped out on the Binn Group trade stand at the show each year, serving drinks and teas and coffees,” he said. “I was aware that it was a part of our lives both as children and adults.
“We’re happy to have Binn Group’s name associated with this major event as key sponsor yet again and play our part in protecting it for others and future generations. Perth Show means a lot to Grandad and Dad and I’m happy to be the third generation at Binn Group to commit to supporting this fantastic event.”
John MacGregor has also been Patron of Perth Show for the past 11 years – a role he accepted with “honour and pride” – and the MacGregor family also sponsor the MacGregor Trophy which is presented at the show to the best young bull.
John also personally plants and tends around 120 large hanging baskets each year to choose the best to adorn the Binn Group stand which has become the centrepiece of the annual showground.

“Perth Show is a key feature on both the city’s and the agricultural community’s calendar and as farmers and businesspeople we realise its importance to the local community, the local economy, tourism and farming,” said John. “I’m honoured to be patron and delighted that Binn Group continues to play its part in supporting such an important event.”
