Perth & Kinross Council has confirmed a bold £97 million investment strategy aimed at transforming leisure facilities across the region, marking one of the most significant capital commitments in its recent history.

The announcement, published on 11 June 2025, comes as part of the council’s ongoing Leisure Assets Review, which seeks to modernise and enhance public amenities for residents and visitors alike.

Transforming Leisure for the Future

The £97 million plan is designed to deliver a comprehensive upgrade of leisure assets, ensuring facilities meet the evolving needs of the community.

While specific project details are expected in forthcoming council updates, the investment underscores a commitment to improving health, wellbeing, and quality of life throughout Perth and Kinross.

This initiative forms part of a wider capital programme, with the council having approved a total capital investment of £220.2 million for 2023/24, covering general fund projects, housing, roads, and infrastructure.

The leisure investment will complement ongoing works such as school upgrades, flood protection schemes, and enhancements to public transport and green spaces.

Economic and Social Benefits

Council leaders have emphasised that the investment will not only revitalise local leisure centres and sports facilities but also stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and attract further tourism to the region.

The budget for 2025 reflects a strong focus on supporting vulnerable residents, empowering communities, and fostering business growth, with additional funding allocated for anti-poverty initiatives, health and social care, and community resilience.

The council’s strategy also highlights sustainability, with recent budgets including support for biodiversity projects, green transport initiatives, and the development of accessible electric vehicle charging networks.

These measures are intended to ensure that Perth and Kinross remains an attractive, inclusive, and environmentally responsible place to live and visit.

Looking Ahead

The £97 million leisure investment is set to be a cornerstone of Perth & Kinross Council’s vision for the future.

Grant Laing, Perth & Kinross Council leader, said: “The proposals before us are not just about a new swimming pool or a single site.

“They represent a joined-up investment plan – one that delivers for both our city and our towns.”

As further details emerge, residents can expect significant improvements to local amenities, reflecting the council’s commitment to delivering high-quality services and infrastructure for all.

For ongoing updates on the Leisure Assets Review and other council initiatives, residents are encouraged to follow official council communications and attend upcoming public meetings.
