Paddy Power has announced plans to close 57 betting shops across the UK and Ireland, putting around 250 jobs at risk.

Parent company Flutter Entertainment, which also owns Betfair and Sky Bet, said the decision followed a review of its retail operations in response to “increasing cost pressures and challenging market conditions.”

The closures include 29 UK outlets – one in Northern Ireland – and 28 in the Republic of Ireland, with affected staff offered redeployment where possible.

A spokesperson said the high street network “remains a key part of our offer,” but the company must “adapt to changing customer trends and needs.”

The move comes as the gambling industry faces growing uncertainty ahead of the UK Government’s autumn Budget, with speculation over potential tax rises on betting firms. Flutter warned that any additional tax burden could threaten jobs and investment across the sector.
