BUSINESSES across Scotland have an opportunity to embrace a “hybrid” future following new Scottish Government guidance today in relation to working from home.

Ministers eased advice around going back to the office, adding that “employers should consider implementing hybrid working” as Covid cases drop.

International presentation expert and former MSP Gavin Brown said by preparing now for a hybrid future, businesses and staff across the country could attract numerous opportunities.

His business, Edinburgh-based Speak With Impact, has spent much of lockdown preparing businesses across the world for a hybrid future.

That includes improving training on applications like Zoom and coaching firms to deliver comprehensive “hybrid” presentations where some people are in the room and others tune in virtually.

Gavin Brown, director of Speak With Impact, said:

“It’s been clear for some time that even when restrictions end, the way we all work has changed for the long term.

“Now the Scottish Government has confirmed that businesses and organisations will be encouraged to adopt a hybrid approach, spending part of their week in the office and part at home.

“That means we all have to be ready for the changed global practices and new ways of communicating, attracting business and co-operating with each other.

“Scotland can get ahead of the curve on this and, if we do, there will be huge opportunities.

“Hundreds of thousands of people are going to change the way they work and, if we adapt correctly, it could mean significant benefits for the Scottish economy.

“It means we need to invest in digital infrastructure, ensure everyone who needs to use it is trained in doing so, and that we seize this opportunity sooner rather than later.”
