Omexom, the global energy infrastructure company and principal contractor delivering the major upgrade of the Fort Augustus Substation on behalf of SSEN Transmission, is inviting local businesses, suppliers, and jobseekers to a ‘Meet the Buyer’ & Recruitment event on Thursday 16th October. This drop-in event will take place at Fort Augustus Village Hall from 12 – 7pm, with refreshments available.

Omexom and its partners will be based in the area for several years as part of a major infrastructure investment to strengthen the electricity network in the Highlands and support Scotland’s transition to net zero.

Aneta Kippen, Community Liaison Officer at Omexom UK says, “We’ll be based in Fort Augustus for several years and want to work hand in hand with the community. This event is about meeting local businesses, trades and future employees face-to-face so that the economic benefits of this major project stay in the region. We want to ensure long-term investment in the Fort Augustus area and that local participation will be at the heart of the delivery of this major infrastructure project.”

The event is designed to encourage connections with:

  • Local businesses – including accommodation providers, restaurants, cafés, shops and service businesses
  • Local supply chain – particularly construction firms, subcontractors and skilled tradespeople
  • Education and skills – schools, colleges, universities and ex-armed forces
  • Jobseekers – with various current vacancies across a broad spectrum of disciplines in Scotland and additional roles expected to be created throughout the lifetime of the project
  • Attendees will hear about contract opportunities, recruitment needs, and how Omexom plans to work in partnership with the local economy throughout the lifetime of the project.

Fort Augustus Substation plays a vital strategic role in SSEN Transmission’s Pathway to 2030 programme. It is a central hub connecting multiple major projects.

Omexom is committed to ensuring the project supports the regional economy, stimulates local employment and builds lasting relationships. The Meet the Buyer event will:

  • Showcase available supply chain contracts and frameworks
  • Promote the pipeline of recruitment opportunities
  • Connect Omexom teams directly with local service providers
  • Encourage collaboration with local schools, colleges and universities to build future skills
  • Highlight available apprenticeship opportunities
