A Yorkshire-based accountancy firm has made a notable entry into the Scottish market by acquiring Empowered by Cloud, a specialist in cloud accounting solutions.

This six-figure deal marks Northern Accountants’ first expansion into Scotland, reflecting a strategic move to broaden its geographical reach and enhance its service offerings.

Northern Accountants, headquartered in Leeds, aims to strengthen its position within the UK accounting sector through this acquisition.

While specific financial details remain undisclosed, the investment highlights the firm’s commitment to growth and technological advancement.

By integrating Empowered by Cloud’s expertise, Northern Accountants is poised to enhance its capabilities in delivering modern accounting solutions.

Founder and managing director Phil Ellerby said: “The acquisition of Empowered By Cloud brings invaluable capabilities to Northern Accountants and enhances our full finance function offering because we can now provide expert finance director services.

“This move allows us to go beyond the compliance services we are well known for, such as tax planning and accounts, to become an integral part of our clients’ businesses.

“Now we can confidently take a seat at the table and offer day-to-day financial guidance based on sound decision-making.

“There is a really strong synergy between the two firms, particularly in the construction and trades sector, where Northern Accountants can now offer comprehensive business advisory services.

“As well as helping to set objectives, we can now advise on digitisation, process implementation, sales and marketing, brand building and exit strategies.”

This integration will likely lead to an expanded range of services for clients, catering to the increasing demand for digital solutions in financial management.

This strategic move aligns with broader industry trends emphasising digital transformation and geographical expansion.
