New Talent Programme Launched to Help Those Affected by the COVID Crisis

LEADING industry group Experience Glasgow will launch The Glasgow Talent Programme next month. This complimentary initiative aims to provide full-service support to those affected by the redundancy surge in the hospitality and tourism industry. 

The announcement comes after a new report suggests that almost half of hospitality businesses and 90,000 jobs could be lost if there is a second lockdown in Scotland.

Stepping up with support when furlough comes to an end, Glasgow Talent Programme will provide bespoke mentoring and guidance to the talented, rising stars of Glasgow’s tourism and hospitality world who, having been displaced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are looking for new opportunities and challenges within the industry. This programme is a wrap-around package of much-needed help for talented people in the industry who are looking for direction and support.

Developed by Experience Glasgow and supported by Scottish Enterprise, working in partnership with mentors from Connect Three, Ellis Mack, Atomic10, and Hospitality Health, the vital initiative aims to empower and build confidence and will run from October 2020 until April 2021. 

Services include coaching and confidence-building; personal development and HR; recruitment opportunities and transferable skills; emotional and mental wellbeing alongside PR, marketing and digital. 

Participants on the programme will be offered a complimentary personalised support plan tailored to best suit their situation. They will be encouraged to continue in the professional and personal development during this challenging time.

Businesses across the city are being encouraged to get involved by nominating anyone that may benefit from the free support programme.

“The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the biggest in Scotland. It does a fantastic job of contributing to the economy and as an industry that has arguably suffered the most as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Glasgow needs to do all it can to support the industry and to help it grow back to its best. The launch of the Glasgow Talent Programme provides hope for the sector as well as much needed guidance and support for employees affected as a result.”

The Glasgow Talent programme will offer a range of support services, including:                       

  • A welcome meeting online or over coffee with a member of the Experience Glasgow team to identify individual support required, highlight relevant and available options, and clarify and agree on expectations and timescales. This may also include any part or full-time educational needs to update or gain skills.
  • Coaching support provided by Connect Three: providing guidance on dealing with personal change, finding purpose and direction, identifying strengths and opportunities, how to create goals, and take action; 1 x 60 minute 1-2-1 coaching session to focus on individual support and needs.
  • Recruitment support provided by Ellis Mack: Identifying and introductions to opportunities available in the current job market, identifying transferable skills, guidance on updating your CV and interviews.        
  • Wellbeing support provided by Hospitality Health: The Scottish charity supports individuals with the Hospitality Industry in areas of mental health, addiction, and wellbeing.
  • Signposting to the City of Glasgow College, Developing the Young Workforce and Springboard Scotland for additional relevant support available and help in navigating all that is out there.
  • Virtual surgery focusing on marketing communications and social media from award-winning creative communications agency, Atomic10. 

Businesses and individuals who wish to be considered for the programme are invited to register their interest with the Experience Glasgow team. There is no cost for individuals to take in the programme and would be perfect for supervisor or junior level management in hospitality and tourism.
