MacDonald Lynch aims to carry forward legacy of respected Glasgow firm
A GLASGOW legal practice is getting a new lease of life as a new generation of lawyers takes the helm with ambitions to grow the respected south side business.
Lynch & Co. has been offering legal support to families and businesses across Glasgow and the central belt for almost four decades from its office in Mount Florida.
Now rebranded MacDonald Lynch, the business has been acquired and expanded by Elaine MacDonald, a former Associate at Austin Lafferty Ltd in Newton Mearns. Three former employees and a consultant from that office, Colin Carr, will also join the new operation.
Gerry Lynch, who founded Lynch & Co. in 1984, will take on a key role as a consultant to the new business, while Carr joins as partner.
MacDonald Lynch will provide a range of legal services including residential and commercial conveyancing, wills, estates, power of attorney and family law. Given its location in the commercial heart of Mount Florida, the new firm aims to capitalise on the thriving residential and commercial property market in Glasgow’s south side, but has ambitions to serve clients across the central belt and beyond.
Partner Elaine MacDonald said: “The pandemic has made many of us take stock of our careers and our lives. I felt that after more than 10 years working for others in the sector, it was time to set new career goals. The opportunity to work for myself and bring on board a brilliant, diverse team of colleagues I know and respect, was literally life changing and one I couldn’t refuse.
“It is daunting stepping into Gerry’s shoes but we have a fantastic team that combines talented young professionals with distinguished legal specialists, and I am delighted that Gerry will support us in an advisory capacity. Our aim will be to build on his achievements and reputation, work hard to support his clients, many of whom are longstanding, and develop the business further. At MacDonald Lynch, everyone on the team is focussed on delivering outstanding customer service and, crucially, everyone will have a voice and a stake in our success.”
Gerry Lynch said: “I am so glad to see an enthusiastic, energetic younger team taking over. They’re a great team and I think our clients will be in good hands.”
Colin Carr added: “We want to become known as the principal south side solicitors. Our market knowledge means we’re well placed to advise clients as the local residential and commercial property market continues to grow, but we have ambitions to serve clients across Scotland.
“With Gerry’s support, and the enthusiasm and determination of our new team, I think there are tremendous opportunities to develop the new business and continue to provide the high quality service that clients have come to expect.”
