A new specialist fertility clinic has opened in Edinburgh, aiming to transform reproductive healthcare in Scotland through personalised treatment, advanced technology and clinical expertise.
Genus Medical Fertility has officially opened at Shawfair Business Park following a significant investment in purpose-built facilities designed to support patients throughout every stage of their fertility journey.
Founded by Consultant in Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecology Dr Karolina Skorupskaite Carlyle, the clinic combines advanced embryology technology, clinical research and individualised care to move away from a traditional one-size-fits-all approach to fertility treatment.
Among the services on offer are All-In-One Fertility Assessments, allowing patients to complete consultations and diagnostic testing on the same day. The clinic says the approach is designed to reduce waiting times and ease some of the stress often associated with fertility investigations.

The clinic’s leadership team brings decades of international experience in reproductive medicine and embryology.
Karen Thompson has joined as Embryology Director and HFEA Person Responsible, bringing almost 30 years’ experience from senior roles at leading UK fertility centres. Her expertise includes IVF laboratory practice, blastocyst culture, vitrification, time-lapse embryo imaging and the introduction of preimplantation genetic testing services.
Nurse Manager Riikka Kirk also joins the team with 25 years of experience across the NHS and private healthcare sectors, specialising in surrogacy programmes and inclusive women’s health.
