Respected retail manager and St. Enoch Centre Director, George Reader, has been appointed to Glasgow Chamber of Commerce’s Council of Directors.
Composed of a selection of prominent Glasgow businesspeople, the Directors act as ambassadors for the Chamber of Commerce and provide valuable guidance and entrepreneurial experience to support the city’s business community.
George’s appointment comes following an overwhelmingly positive festive trading period for St. Enoch Centre, which saw 2.6 million shoppers visit the city centre destination and annual sales up by 22% compared with the previous year.
Since joining St. Enoch Centre in November 2023, Reader has overseen the signing of several big brand names including global eateries Wagamama and Wingstop, and leading British retailer Next – enhancing the Centre’s already impressive line-up of tenants. And with more major signings expected this year, Reader has shown himself to be an asset to Glasgow’s business sector.
Having previously held senior positions at Silverburn and Braehead shopping centres, George possesses an acute understanding of Glasgow’s retail landscape and the unique opportunities and challenges this poses to businesses. It is this specialist insight, exceptional track record and strong stakeholder relationships that make Reader the ideal candidate for the position at the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.
George Reader said of his appointment: “It is an honour to have been selected to represent Glasgow Chamber of Commerce as one of its new Directors. I am highly invested in the success of Glasgow’s retail sector, having worked with local businesses for over 30 years. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience to contribute to the success of the city’s remarkable business community.”
The Chamber’s Chief Executive, Stuart Patrick, added: “As a voice for Glasgow business, the Chamber of Commerce seeks connected, inspiring and entrepreneurial leaders to join the Council of Directors. With a lifetime of delivering excellence in retail destination management and a senior position in one of Glasgow’s leading shopping centres, George possesses the relevant business acumen and strategic vision to help Glasgow business to innovate, adapt and thrive.”
