Nationwide has underlined its commitment to Scotland as it expands its presence at 177 Bothwell Street – Glasgow’s largest office building.
The former Virgin Money headquarters, which will also be rebranded to Nationwide later this year, is in the heart of Glasgow’s business district. Around 3,000 colleagues will be based there as Nationwide grows it business banking operation.
Nationwide will take a further two floors of office space – bringing the total to five – from spring 2027. The office, which offers a panoramic view of Glasgow’s city centre, also boasts a 150-metre rooftop running track. It is one of Glasgow’s most sustainable buildings, using 100 per cent renewable energy from a South Lanarkshire wind farm, with zero-carbon emissions.
Nationwide in Scotland
Nationwide now has Scotland’s largest branch network, with a total of 80 branches across the country. This includes 44 Nationwide and 36 Virgin Money branches, which will all remain open until at least 2030.
Nationwide’s branch network delivers community support beyond banking. Through its Fairer Futures programme, Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses offer clinics in 250 Nationwide and Virgin Money branches, including in Scotland. A recent initiative will see defibrillators and bleed kits installed across every branch, while many offer Safe Spaces for domestic abuse support.

Nationwide branches also run Digital Lessons and offer Scam Checker services while Virgin Money branches help tackle data poverty through the National Databank, providing free mobile data to eligible individuals.
